You asked for it...

Liz, you made the suggestions... ;-)

How to catch and kill a chicken...

You grab it either with your hands or a net that you carry around. Then you grab it by the legs, swing its head into something hard, or you just stomp on its head. :-)

How to dance like a gentleman and take the lead...

Now this is a good suggestion. And here's what I think. It's a guy's job/duty/responsibility at a dance (whether he likes dancing or not) to make sure that the ladies have a good time and enjoy the evening. For this reason, he is *required* to courteously ask a lady to dance every dance with him. "May I have this dance?" does suffice.

But what if you don't know how to dance? Then learn. And learn ahead of time. Don't try learning at a Ball, ask a girl to dance, and not know the dance. It's a pain for the girl to have to lead or try to follow someone who doesn't know what he's doing. So learn ahead of time.

What if you can't dance well at all, no matter how hard you've tried? No need to make a big deal of the fact you have two left feet... just don't come to a Ball. People come to Balls to dance, not to be wallflowers. Girls don't want to just visit on the side, and guys definitely don't. So if you can't dance, don't come. But having two left feet isn't a sin.

What if you're dead tired? Unless you've got asthma, you don't have an excuse. Get up and dance anyway. (typically... :-) )

So those are my opinions on dancing...

Meditations on Latin Translations...

Translating from the Vulgate is way cool. Like. Totally.

So... what are the next suggestions? (I'm serious here... give me some good ones... I don't want my brain to rot... )

Good post, Daniel! I like what you said about dancing. But I'm not sure that I agree with you in saying that if you just can't dance don't come. That shouldn't have to stop you from dancing. :) I've danced with guys who were absolutly clueless at what they were doing, and they had a ball anyhow! lol "Try, try again" and all that. ;)

Faith, I know what you're saying, and I wasn't trying to imply that if you don't know what you're doing you can't come. But it's nicer if you do. My point is, don't come to a dance and then say you aren't going to dance because you just can't. I can't stand it when guys come and give me that excuse. :-)

Ah. I see. And I agree with that as well. :) Sorry for the confusion. :D

oh good... glad we agree. And no problemo. Helped me be clear. :-)

*chuckles* What about an ax? Or is this the way you Texan men do it to feel macho?

Hmm. I mostly agree with what you think about guys dancing. Maybe since you're a guy you will naturally be hard on those slackers and tell them not to come if they don't intend to dance. I guess that's good advice, if they stand around yakking with friends but don't ask the girls.

Good post!

Once again, I will take up my solemn duty: ensuring that Daniel's brain does not "rot." :-P

I. What exactly is the definition of a "sport"? Does golf qualify? Ping-pong? Walking? Gardening? What about competetive gardening, like trying to grow a giant pumpkin for the county fair?

II. Defend Texas' right to rebel against Mexico. It seems the Texans broke their word by (1) bringing too many families in, far in excess of what they were allowed, and (2) bringing Protestant families in when they were expressly told that only Catholics were allowed in the territory. It seems then, that most Texans at the time of the rebellion were illegal squatters. Prove this notion wrong.

III. Is BBQ a sauce with a particular flavor, or is it a certain cooking style? And why? What's the history behind the two different meanings of the term?

IV. Republican or Constitution Party?

You're just mean. :-)

Something tells me I'm in a good mood though, and I'll answer all of your questions, allbeit somewhat lightheartedly... ;-)

So beware...
